3D-Printed Home Walls for $20/sqft
ICON unveiled "Titan," a new 3D-printed home robot that promises to build walls for just $20/sqft [https://www.newsnationnow.com/business/tech/icon-austins-3d-printed-home-building-robot/] – a game-changer for affordable housing. How quickly can Titan build a typical house?
ICON's new Titan printer aims to overcome limitations of previous 3D printing tech by printing taller and faster with less labor. The system is designed to deliver reinforced concrete structures with lower labor input and tighter cost control than conventional framing. ICON is positioning itself as a vertically integrated partner, offering robotics, proprietary material supply, optimized architecture, and regulatory support. Titan is designed for rapid mobilization between build sites without permanent infrastructure. The system operates within a 70-foot radius and needs only 10 feet of lateral clearance for deployment. ICON delivers its CarbonX material to the site, and a mixer prepares it for printing. ICON has already completed 245 homes and structures using its 3D printing technology. These include projects with Community First! Village to house the homeless in Austin, and a 100-home community in Georgetown, Texas, in partnership with Lennar and BIG. A 35-foot 3D-printed church will also be constructed at Community First! Village using the Titan printer.
