TECNO to Unveil AI-Centric Phones
Smartphone brand TECNO is set to unveil its new flagship CAMON 50 Series at MWC 2026 in Barcelona. The launch will focus heavily on AI, showcasing a new AI-powered imaging smartphone family and a broader ecosystem of AI-integrated products.
TECNO's focus on artificial intelligence represents a strategic push to differentiate in competitive emerging markets, where its parent company, Transsion, holds a significant footprint. Transsion, which also owns Infinix and Itel, commanded a 48% market share in Africa in 2025 and saw substantial shipment growth in Southeast Asia and Latin America in 2024. This deep entrenchment provides a massive user base for its new AI-driven devices. The brand's AI strategy, termed "Practical AI," centers on localized user needs. This is demonstrated through its Ella AI assistant, which processed over 500 million user requests in 2025, with more than half in non-English languages. Key features include support for languages like Hausa, mixed Hindi-English recognition, and offline functionality for English and French, addressing varied network conditions in its key markets. Leaked and officially teased specifications for the CAMON 50 series reveal a significant hardware upgrade. The phones are expected to feature a 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, a large 6,150mAh battery with 45W charging, and the MediaTek Helio G200 Ultimate chipset. The camera system, a traditional focus for the CAMON line, will be headlined by a 50-megapixel primary sensor. The upcoming CAMON 50 Pro is set to introduce a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto lens with optical image stabilization, a feature typically found in higher-priced flagship models. New AI-powered camera features are also anticipated, including "Super-Zoom FlashSnap" for capturing high-speed action and "AI Auto Zoom" for intelligent subject framing. This technology push comes at a challenging time for TECNO's parent company, Transsion Holdings. The company reported a significant 53.4% drop in net profit for 2025, citing rising supply chain costs and increased competition as primary factors. Beyond smartphones, TECNO's MWC presentation will highlight a broader ecosystem of connected devices. This includes AI-powered laptops, smart accessories, and an upgraded cross-device platform called OneLeap, signaling a strategy to build a more integrated user experience. The Barcelona event will also feature the debut of a partnership with Tonino Lamborghini. This collaboration is expected to produce a co-created product lineup, including a gaming mini-PC and a limited-edition version of a POVA smartphone, indicating a move to associate the brand with high-performance design.
