Everest season: icefall teams move in

Nepal’s ‘icefall doctors’ have arrived at Everest Base Camp and started fixing ropes and ladders through the Khumbu Icefall — the route will soon be ready for spring climbers and trekkers (english.aawsat.com). The season is also seeing wellness-focused options return — the Everest Base Camp Yoga Trek is back for 2026 — and a documentary, 'The Everest Dream,' will premiere at NIFF in Kathmandu on April 5 ( ).

The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee says its Icefall Doctors departed Namche Bazaar on March 1 and will undertake refresher training at Everest Base Camp from March 5–10 before formally opening the Khumbu route with a traditional puja on March 16. (alanarnette.com) Team leadership and rosters were published: Ang Sarki Sherpa has been named chief leader after working in the icefall since 2008, and several outlets list an eight-member Icefall Doctors roster that includes Dawa Jangbu, Dawa Nuru, Nima Tenzi and others. (everestchronicle.com) Operational planning shows the Icefall Doctors will be based at the SPCC office at Base Camp for roughly three months to maintain the route to Camp II, a necessity because the Khumbu Glacier can shift about one metre per day and quickly degrade anchors and ladders. (explorersweb.com) Authorities are again emphasising waste-management measures this season: organisers say the SPCC will enforce mandatory human-waste collection and stricter removal of fixed ropes and debris left on the mountain. (summitersclub.com) The “Everest Base Camp Yoga Trek” packages returning for 2026 are being marketed with typical itineraries of 15–18 days, daily guided yoga and meditation on the trail, and maximum altitudes around Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) with Kala Patthar viewpoints often listed near 5,545 m. (adventureclubtrek.com) “The Everest Dream,” directed by Ganesh Panday and documenting a group of traumatic brain-injury survivors from Scotland trekking to Everest Base Camp, is scheduled to premiere at the Nepal International Film Festival in Kathmandu on April 5 during the NIFF run April 2–6, and the festival schedule lists the film at 33 minutes.
