Amalfi Coast video goes viral

A cinematic short of Italy’s Amalfi Coast—showing sheer cliffs, turquoise water and winding coastal roads—has been circulating as vacation inspiration and picked up nearly 3,000 likes and shares on social platforms. A glossy Amalfi Coast clip is spreading across social platforms as Italy heads into peak summer booking season, putting one of Europe’s busiest shorelines back in the spotlight. (x.com) Italy’s national tourism agency said on June 12, 2025 that nearly 27 million tourists were expected to arrive for summer travel, with demand to visit Italy up almost 18 percent and 10.6 million international arrivals already booked. The United Kingdom, the United States and Germany were the biggest foreign markets in that forecast. (enit.it) Italy’s statistics agency said 2024 set a national record with 458.4 million nights spent in tourist accommodation, up 2.5 percent from the previous high in 2023. It also reported that the second quarter of 2025 ran ahead of the same period a year earlier, even after that record year. (istat.it; istat.it) The Amalfi Coast sits inside that larger surge because it is already one of Italy’s best-known postcard routes: UNESCO lists the Costiera Amalfitana as a World Heritage site and describes a coastline of steep terrain, historic towns and terraced landscapes shaped since the early Middle Ages. Towns including Amalfi and Ravello are part of the protected area. (whc.unesco.org) That fame has also turned the coast into a case study in crowd management. In September 2024, Amalfi mayor Daniele Milano outlined 11 measures aimed at more sustainable tourism, including pedestrian-flow monitoring and tighter rules on short-term rentals. (ansa.it) By March 2025, Amalfi had joined six other high-pressure destinations in a national summit on overtourism titled “Destinations and communities for more sustainable tourism,” again with Milano representing the town. The mayors framed the issue as a balance between visitor demand and daily life for residents. (ansa.it) Travel logistics are part of the story behind clips like this one. Travelmar, one of the main ferry operators on the coast, markets sea routes to Amalfi and Positano as a way to avoid long car queues and parking problems, and its current timetable shows frequent sailings linking Salerno, Amalfi, Positano and smaller towns. (travelmar.it; travelmar.it) Accommodation supply is also broad enough to feed last-minute planning. Booking.com lists 2,948 properties across the Amalfi Coast region, including 533 in Positano, 459 in Amalfi and 205 in Ravello, giving travelers a large but heavily competed-for pool during peak months. (booking.com) The viral appeal is simple: a short video can sell the coast’s cliffs, roads and water in seconds, while the real destination is managing record tourism, transport bottlenecks and pressure to keep the place livable. That tension is now part of the Amalfi Coast image too. (x.com; ansa.it)
