Retro-Synthpop Video Drops
Pink Stiletto returned with "Bananza" — a bonkers retro-synthpop track packed with neon colors, analog video effects, and playful vaporwave-adjacent nostalgia. The video channels classic aesthetic motifs with modern energy.
Pink Stiletto is the San Francisco-based musical project of Valery Kvochkova, formerly of the band Deux Nomiz. The project's name was inspired by tracks like Fancy's "Slice Me Nice," aiming to capture the wacky, sensual, and quirky elements of 80s New Wave and Post-Punk. The project's sound is heavily influenced by the eclectic, avant-garde nature of ZE Records, which famously merged disco's energy with punk's raw edge. Critics also note sonic parallels to the sleek unease of Depeche Mode, the intellectual disco of Cabaret Voltaire, and the propulsive force of DAF. Before the release of "Bananza," Kvochkova released the four-track EP "New Wava" in 2024. That record drew from a range of influences including Gary Numan and Lizzy Mercier Descloux, embodying the DIY creative scenes of late '70s and early '80s London, Berlin, and New York. The production of "Bananza" involved Tobias Lill for mixing and mastering, with photography by Minh Tran and visuals by Soft Power Design. The use of analog video effects like VHS-style distortion helps transport viewers back in time and creates a cool, vintage aesthetic. Following the digital single, a 7-inch vinyl version of "Bananza" is scheduled for an April release via Bretford Records and Cuerdas Fuera Records. The release is expected to be supported by a European tour in the summer.
