European Powerlifting Championship Underway

The European University Cup Classic Powerlifting 2026 is currently running February 17-20 in Merignac, France. The competition brings together top university athletes from across Europe competing for national pride and records. The USAPL West Loop Winter Classic 2026 highlights were also released February 16, showcasing standout moments from the Chicago-based competition.

- The competition will feature three core lifts: the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Athletes are given three attempts at each lift to achieve their maximum possible weight. - The "Classic" in the event's name refers to the style of lifting, also known as "raw" powerlifting. This means competitors participate without the use of supportive equipment like squat suits or bench shirts. - This event is organized by the European Powerlifting Federation (EPF), which was founded in 1977 and serves as the governing body for the sport in Europe, encompassing over 40 national federations. - Athletes must be between the ages of 17 and 25 and be current students or have graduated in the year immediately preceding the competition. - Medals are awarded for the individual squat, bench press, and deadlift disciplines, as well as for the overall total weight lifted. Additionally, team awards are given to the top three performing universities for both men and women. - The 2025 edition of the European University Powerlifting Cup, held in Luxembourg, hosted 251 participants from 97 universities and 21 countries. During that event, one new European record and 30 new EUSA (European University Sports Association) records were set. - All participating athletes are required to complete the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) ADeL anti-doping education program before they are allowed to register for the competition.
