Brazil gets 3‑star Michelin

Two São Paulo restaurants—Evvai and Tuju—were elevated to three Michelin stars in the 2026 guide, making them the first three‑star establishments in Latin America. (g1.globo.com) (portaltela.com). Nearby Rio made the 2026 list too, with tasting menus there running roughly R$440 to R$1,380 before drinks. (diariodorio.com).

Brazil now has Latin America’s first three-Michelin-star restaurants, both in São Paulo: Evvai and Tuju. (guide.michelin.com) The Michelin Guide announced the awards on April 13 at the Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro, in its 2026 Rio de Janeiro & São Paulo edition. Michelin said no restaurant in either city lost stars this year. (guide.michelin.com) (g1.globo.com) Michelin’s three-star rating is the guide’s top tier, reserved for restaurants it says are “worth a special journey.” In the same 2026 selection, Rio restaurant Madame Olympe won its first star. (guide.michelin.com) (g1.globo.com) The result caps a long run in which Brazil had Michelin-starred restaurants but none at the guide’s highest level. Exame reported the 2026 selection includes 38 restaurants in São Paulo and eight in Rio de Janeiro. (exame.com) Before this edition, Brazil’s top Michelin rank was two stars. Estadão reported that the 2025 guide had five two-star restaurants and 20 one-star restaurants, along with 40 Bib Gourmand picks, 84 recommended restaurants and three green stars. (estadao.com.br) Evvai is led by chef Luiz Filipe Souza, and Tuju is led by chef Ivan Ralston. Michelin’s write-up said Evvai blends Italian roots with Brazilian ingredients, while Tuju centers its tasting menu on seasonal produce from small local farmers. (guide.michelin.com) The guide still covers only two Brazilian cities, which shapes who can compete for stars. Every Michelin-starred restaurant in Brazil’s 2026 edition is in São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro. (cnnbrasil.com.br) (rotadeferias.com.br) Eating at starred restaurants in Rio spans a wide price range even before wine or cocktails. Diário do Rio listed tasting menus from about R$440 at Oseille to R$1,380 at Lasai and Oro. (diariodorio.com) For Brazil, the 2026 guide turned a São Paulo ceremony win into a regional first: two restaurants at Michelin’s top rank, and a map of starred dining still concentrated between São Paulo and Rio.
