Dubai's New '7-Star' Resort

The new Marsa Al Arab resort in Dubai is being positioned as a "7-star-level" experience, focusing on extreme privacy and personalization. The property features entire floors for VIPs, private entrances, and invitation-only events, setting a new global benchmark for ultra-luxury hospitality.

The "7-star" designation is a marketing term, not an official rating, first coined for Dubai's original ultra-luxe hotel, the Burj Al Arab. This unofficial category implies a level of opulence and personalized service that surpasses the formal 5-star classification, often including features like private butlers, helicopter transfers, and a high staff-to-guest ratio. The Marsa Al Arab officially opened on March 14, 2025, and is part of a larger two-island development by Dubai Holding. The project was conceived as a component of the government's 2020 vision to attract 20 million visitors to the city. The resort itself features 386 rooms and suites, 84 serviced residences, and four penthouses. Architect Shaun Killa, who also designed Dubai's Museum of the Future, is the visionary behind the resort's superyacht-inspired structure. The design completes an architectural trilogy on the Jumeirah beachfront, joining the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab and the wave-inspired Jumeirah Beach Hotel. More than 40 percent of the hotel's rooms boast terrace spaces exceeding 22 square meters. The property includes a private beach, four swimming pools, and an 82-berth superyacht marina. For VIPs, one of the penthouses set a record as the most expensive apartment sold in Dubai at Dh420 million, featuring 17,000 square feet of outdoor space and a private pool. The resort aims to be a culinary destination with 12 restaurants and four bars. Dining concepts include Greek, Venetian, and Japanese-French fusion cuisines. Wellness is also a focus, with a three-story Talise Spa that offers advanced therapies and features a dedicated floor for female guests.
