LA 2028 Olympics Confirms Multi-City Venue Plan

The organizing committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics released an updated venue plan for the games. The plan confirms that events will be spread across multiple cities in the region. Host locations will include Anaheim, Carson, Inglewood, Long Beach, and downtown Los Angeles.

- The "radical reuse" of existing venues is a cornerstone of the plan, with a commitment to build no new permanent structures for the Games. This approach is expected to generate a combined $156 million in savings and increased revenue. - In a significant venue shift, swimming will be held at Inglewood's SoFi Stadium, which will be temporarily converted to house the largest swimming venue in Olympic history with a 38,000-seat capacity. Meanwhile, gymnastics will move to the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles. - For the first time in the city's history, the San Fernando Valley will host multiple Olympic events at the Sepulveda Basin, including BMX, skateboarding, and 3x3 basketball. - Some events will be held outside of California entirely; due to a lack of suitable local venues, softball and canoe slalom competitions will take place in Oklahoma City. - The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, a central venue for the 1932 and 1984 Games, will once again host athletics, making it the only stadium to host track and field events in three separate Olympics. - The Opening Ceremony will be held across two different venues simultaneously: the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium, connecting the city's Olympic heritage with its modern facilities. - Venues have been assigned for newly added sports, with flag football set to debut at BMO Stadium and squash competitions to be held at Universal Studios in the San Fernando Valley. - The updated plan is projected to have a significant economic impact, generating between $13.6 and $17.6 billion for the Southern California region.
