Pomona Classic Car Show Underway

The Pomona Swap Meet & Classic Car Show is taking place today at the Pomona Fairplex. The large-scale event draws classic car enthusiasts to buy, sell, and display vintage vehicles.

This event is the largest of its kind on the West Coast, held seven times a year. It traces its roots back to 1975 when founder George W. Cross III, an antique automobile enthusiast, grew frustrated with the scarcity of parts for his own restoration projects. With just a $100 advertising budget, Cross launched the first swap meet on August 3, 1975, at what was then the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds. That initial event was a surprising success, drawing over 4,000 people and prompting a second meet just five months later. Today, each one-day event attracts over 20,000 automotive enthusiasts who explore an estimated 15 miles of cars and parts. The show features more than 2,500 classic cars for sale or show and over 2,000 vendor spaces selling rare parts and accessories. The event accommodates a wide range of vehicles, with specialized "Car Corral" sections for pre-1995 classics, Corvettes, Porsches, street rods, and Volkswagens. Now run by George Cross & Sons, Inc., the swap meet has become a world-renowned gathering for car culture.
