Houston's Ranch-Inspired Restaurant Opens
"Long Weekend," a ranch-inspired neighborhood restaurant just opened to the public in Houston, promising a casual yet refined dining experience with comfort fare and community vibes. The space is designed to be as inviting as its menu, positioning itself as an early contender for local foodies' new favorite spot.
The new neighborhood spot, Long Weekend, is a family affair, founded by husband-and-wife team Andrew and Paige Alvis. The concept is deeply personal, inspired by Andrew's childhood weekends spent at his family's ranch, which revolved around trail rides, storytelling, and meals cooked over a fire. As parents to three young boys, the Alvises aimed to create a space where adults can enjoy a quality meal while children have room to play. The restaurant's name and ethos are backed by a sprawling physical space located at 2044 E. TC Jester in the Lazybrook/Timbergrove area, taking over the former King's Bierhaus and Egghaus locations. It features an 8,000-square-foot interior and a massive 20,000-square-foot outdoor area, designed to be an all-day destination. A major draw for families is what the restaurant claims is Houston's largest outdoor play area. The Western-themed playground includes slides and climbing structures, complemented by an outdoor "Yard" with a stream, picnic tables, fire pits, and large TVs. For entertainment, a dedicated stage will host live music throughout the year. The culinary program is led by veteran Houston chef German Mosquera, previously of notable establishments like Brasil and La Colombe d'Or. The menu emphasizes wood-fired cooking, utilizing a custom-built grill with a rotisserie, an open hearth, a vault smoker, and a cherry-wood-fired pizza oven. Diners can expect cowboy-inspired comfort food with unique offerings such as an Ax Breaker Elk Burger, chicken-fried wagyu steak, and prairie-side deviled eggs with rabbit. For groups, a "Cowboy Cookout" platter is available for $240, featuring a Texas wagyu tomahawk steak and various sides. Beyond the main dining experience, Long Weekend operates a separate "Long Weekend Café" with its own hours, serving breakfast and lunch items like tacos and pancakes. The café also houses a "Creative Canyon," an arts-and-crafts area for children, reinforcing the restaurant's family-centric approach.
