TECNO Unveils AI-Powered CAMON 50 Series at MWC

At MWC 2026, TECNO is set to unveil its new flagship smartphone family, the CAMON 50 Series. The launch event will highlight the phone's advanced imaging capabilities and a broader ecosystem of AI-driven products. The move signals TECNO's focus on integrating AI more deeply into its consumer electronics.

TECNO's parent company, Transsion Holdings, is a major player in emerging markets, holding the top spot in Africa's smartphone market with a 48% share in 2025. Globally, Transsion ranked as the fourth-largest smartphone vendor in 2024 by annual shipments, demonstrating significant growth in regions like South Asia and Latin America. The company's strategy focuses on offering affordable devices with features tailored to local consumer needs. The CAMON series, first launched in 2015, has been central to TECNO's strategy, establishing the brand as a contender in mobile photography. Initially focused on enhancing low-light performance, the series has evolved to incorporate advanced features like AI-driven beautification, Super Night Mode, and optical image stabilization. This focus on camera technology has made the CAMON line popular among content creators and photography enthusiasts in its target markets. The new CAMON 50 series promises significant hardware and software upgrades, including a 144Hz AMOLED display and a 50MP main camera featuring a Sony LYT-700C sensor. The Pro models will also include a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto lens with OIS for enhanced zoom capabilities. The devices are expected to run on Android 16 with HiOS 16 and will be powered by MediaTek processors, with the Ultra 5G model utilizing the Dimensity 7400 chipset. This MWC launch is part of a broader industry trend among smartphone makers to pivot towards AI. TECNO's "Practical AI" strategy aims to integrate AI into daily applications to improve efficiency, productivity, and creativity. Key AI features highlighted for the CAMON 50 series include "Super-Zoom FlashSnap" for high-speed captures and an upgraded Ella AI assistant. The company has previously integrated AI into its devices for wallpaper generation, portrait enhancement, and battery optimization. Beyond the new smartphones, TECNO is showcasing a wider ecosystem of interconnected devices. This includes the MEGABOOK laptop portfolio, AI-enhanced smart wearables, and the OneLeap cross-device connection solution. The company is also set to announce a partnership with Tonino Lamborghini, which will include co-created products like a gaming mini-PC and limited-edition smartphones.
