Gnarls Barkley Returns After 18 Years

After an 18-year hiatus, Gnarls Barkley has dropped the new single "Pictures" and announced their third and final album, *Atlanta*, closing a legendary chapter in modern soul. The duo's return marks the end of an era with this being their final project together. "Pictures" serves as the lead single from the farewell album.

The duo, comprised of producer Danger Mouse and singer CeeLo Green, first exploded onto the global scene in 2006 with their debut single "Crazy." The track was a phenomenon, topping the UK Singles Chart and notably becoming the first song to do so based on digital download sales alone. In the US, it peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and won a Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance. Their debut album, *St. Elsewhere*, released the same year, garnered widespread critical acclaim and commercial success. The album won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album and was certified double platinum in the United States for selling over 2 million units. It blended elements of soul, hip hop, and psychedelic rock, establishing the duo's unique, genre-defying sound. Gnarls Barkley's second album, *The Odd Couple*, was released in 2008. While it received positive reviews for its darker and more introspective tone, it did not achieve the same chart-topping success as its predecessor. The album's release was pushed forward after it was leaked online ahead of schedule. During the 18-year hiatus, both artists achieved significant individual success. CeeLo Green released solo albums, including *The Lady Killer* (2010), which featured the worldwide multi-platinum hit "Fuck You" (edited for radio as "Forget You"). He also became a household name as a coach on the popular NBC singing competition *The Voice*. Meanwhile, Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) became one of the most sought-after producers in music. His extensive production credits include work with A-list artists like Adele, Gorillaz, The Black Keys, and Beck. He also formed the band Broken Bells with James Mercer of The Shins, releasing multiple albums.
