Evanston Getting New Tavern-Style Pizzeria
A new restaurant called THE SPOT is set to open this spring in Evanston. The establishment will be a tavern-style pizzeria, adding a new dining option for local residents. The opening will take place at the former site of the Union Pizzeria.
A new tavern-style pizzeria called THE SPOT is slated to open in the spring at 1700 Central Street in Evanston, taking over the location formerly occupied by Ten Mile House. The project is a collaboration between Evanston native and hospitality veteran Otto Ade and Fred Gale, the longtime owner-operator of Ten Mile House. The name "THE SPOT" is a tribute to a former Evanston establishment where co-owner Otto Ade celebrated childhood birthdays. The new restaurant aims to create a casual and welcoming neighborhood atmosphere, strategically located just steps from Northwestern University's new Ryan Field. The pizzeria will feature a partnership with Danny's Pizza, a South Side institution that has been using the same recipe since 1976. This collaboration will introduce Danny's well-regarded tavern-style pizza to a new audience in the north suburbs. The menu will be led by Executive Chef Matt Overpack and is also expected to include other Italian classics like pasta and salads. The previous restaurant at this location, Ten Mile House, was a community hub for over a decade, known for its comfort food, wood-fired pizzas, and smoked meats. After its closure in mid-March, the ownership team shifted its focus to its sister restaurant, Comida Cantina, located at 1928 Central Street. Fred Gale, a co-owner of the former Ten Mile House, is also involved with other local establishments like DB3 Donuts and Fred's Garage in Winnetka.
