Tom Aspinall Signs with Eddie Hearn
UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall surprised the MMA world by signing with boxing promoter Eddie Hearn for representation. Dana White reacted to the news, highlighting the growing trend of MMA fighters seeking high-profile boxing management and crossover opportunities.
This partnership makes Aspinall the first athlete to sign with Eddie Hearn's newly formed Matchroom Talent Agency. The venture aims to manage athletes' brands, securing sponsorships and media opportunities outside of their primary sport. Aspinall will continue to work with his existing media and management team, with Matchroom providing additional services in areas like commercial partnerships and legal support. The deal is a commercial and advisory one, meaning Hearn will handle Aspinall's business dealings, but the fighter remains under contract with the UFC. Hearn has explicitly stated this is not a move to bring Aspinall into boxing in the short term. Aspinall currently has two fights remaining on his UFC contract. This signing intensifies the growing rivalry between Eddie Hearn and UFC President Dana White. The move is seen by many as a response to White's Zuffa Boxing signing away one of Hearn's top boxers, Conor Benn, for a reported $15 million one-fight deal just weeks prior. While Aspinall has expressed interest in boxing and holds a 2017 first-round knockout win in a professional boxing match, a crossover is not imminent. The immediate focus is on managing his career and brand as a UFC champion, though the partnership with a top boxing promoter will undoubtedly fuel speculation about future crossover bouts.
