Gordon Murray T.50s Finally Arrives

The Gordon Murray T.50s — priced at $3 million and engineered for driving purists — will finally arrive this year after final testing. The T.50s is positioned as the spiritual successor to the legendary McLaren F1 GTR, emphasizing light weight and a naturally aspirated V12. Meanwhile, discussions highlight performance upgrades like the Audi A5 RS with plug-in hybrid delivering 630 horsepower.

The track-only Gordon Murray T.50s is named in honor of three-time Formula One World Champion Niki Lauda. This version is a more extreme, track-focused iteration of the T.50 road car, designed to offer the ultimate on-track experience. Production is capped at just 25 units, each with a price tag of £3.1 million before taxes. Powering the T.50s is a substantially redesigned 3.9-liter Cosworth V12 engine that produces 761 horsepower and revs to an astonishing 12,100 rpm. A roof-mounted RAM induction airbox can increase the maximum power to 725bhp. This potent engine is paired with a six-speed paddle-shift gearbox, and the entire car weighs a mere 852kg, significantly less than the 986kg road-going version. A standout feature of the T.50s is its advanced aerodynamics, highlighted by a 400mm rear-mounted fan. This fan, in conjunction with a large rear wing and other aerodynamic elements, can generate up to 1,500 kg of downforce. This focus on aerodynamics is a nod to designer Gordon Murray's famous Brabham BT46B "fan car" from the 1970s. The driver is seated in a central position, flanked by two passenger seats, a layout made famous by the McLaren F1. Four-time IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti, who was involved in the car's development, has described it as "the most engaging car I've ever driven." After final testing at the Bahrain International Circuit, where it unofficially beat the GT3 lap record, the T.50s has been signed off for production.
