Rainbow Six Siege Gets Solid Snake
Rainbow Six Siege's new season Operation Silent Hunt just went live with Solid Snake as a playable operator. He comes equipped with his signature pistol, detection radar, and a full suite of Metal Gear-themed skins and missions. This crossover brings a major gaming icon into the tactical shooter space.
The inclusion of Solid Snake is voiced by his original English actor, David Hayter, who has portrayed the character since 1998. This marks a significant return for Hayter to the role for new voice work, a move seen as crucial for maintaining the character's iconic identity. This crossover is not the first time a major stealth icon has joined the ranks of Team Rainbow. Sam Fisher from the Splinter Cell series was added in 2020 under the codename "Zero." The addition of Solid Snake creates a unique scenario where two of gaming's most famous espionage heroes from different franchises can operate on the same team. The *Metal Gear Solid* collaboration extends beyond just the new operator. The Operation Silent Hunt battle pass includes additional themed cosmetics, such as a Psycho Mantis outfit for the operator Smoke. Future updates will also introduce cosmetic skins for other operators, transforming them into characters like Gray Fox and Revolver Ocelot. *Rainbow Six Siege* has a long history of crossovers, though Solid Snake represents a new level of integration as a fully playable character from a third-party franchise. In the past, the game has featured cosmetic bundles from series like *Resident Evil*, *Yakuza*, *Tomb Raider*, and even *Halo*. The timing of Snake's arrival coincides with a broader resurgence of the *Metal Gear* franchise. Konami is actively developing a full remake of *Metal Gear Solid 3*, titled *Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater*, and is also releasing *Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2*, which will make titles like *Metal Gear Solid 4* accessible on modern platforms.
