Tamar Mediterranean to Open in Bloomfield Township

Tamar Mediterranean, a new restaurant offering Mediterranean cuisine, will open in Bloomfield Township. The eatery is taking over the former location of the restaurant Zao Jun.

The new establishment, named Tamar Mediterranean Kitchen and Bar, is the brainchild of Ziad Battah. Battah is already a known entity in the local food scene as the owner of Shawarma Grill, a fast-casual spot in Southfield. With Tamar, he is venturing into a full-service, sit-down dining experience. The restaurant will occupy a 182-seat space at 6608 Telegraph Road, located in the Bloomfield Plaza Shopping Center. On February 23, the Bloomfield Township board of trustees unanimously approved the restaurant's plans, with a liquor license and sign review being the final steps. Tamar's menu is described as a fusion, blending Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavors, and will also feature some American dishes with a unique twist. Battah is collaborating with an executive chef to finalize the offerings. The previous tenant, Zao Jun, a Pan-Asian and sushi restaurant, closed its doors on November 17, 2025, after operating in the location since 2019. The closure is part of a planned relocation, with the owners, who also manage Adachi in Birmingham, actively seeking a new spot.
