SF Music Week Hosts Free Artist Development Day

SF Music Week hosted a free Artist Development Day at the Public Works venue on February 28. The event provided workshops and resources designed to support the careers of local musicians.

Now in its second year, SF Music Week is a collaborative effort by promoter Noise Pop, SF Live, and the city's Office of Economic and Workforce Development to bolster the local music industry. The week-long event, running from February 23 to March 1, aims to showcase and support the artists and venues that are integral to San Francisco's cultural identity and economic recovery. The free Artist Development Day is a key component of the week, designed to equip independent musicians with the necessary business knowledge and tools to advance their careers. The programming focuses on practical strategies for artists to protect their creative work, navigate the industry, and build a sustainable career. This year's sessions include panels on leveraging music for social impact, understanding the role of independent record labels, and strategies for artists to reclaim their audiences from social media algorithms. Additional workshops will cover the fundamentals of building a live music career from the ground up and provide legal tools for conflict management. The event is hosted at Public Works, a community-focused nightclub and event space in the Mission District known for its diverse programming and support of local and international artists. The space features a world-class Funktion-One sound system and serves as a creative hub for various arts and music communities within the city.
