NFL Free Agency Frenzy
Dolphins cut Tua Tagovailoa with $99.2M dead cap 4, while the Rams signed Trent McDuffie to a record $100M guaranteed for a cornerback [N/A]. Free agency is officially open [N/A].
Miami will carry a $67.4 million dead cap hit in 2026 and $31.8 million in 2027 for Tagovailoa. Designating him as a post-June 1 cut allows them to spread the cap hit over two seasons. Tua has agreed to a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons for a little over $1 million. The Rams traded a 2026 first-round pick (No. 29 overall), plus a fifth- and sixth-round pick this year and a 2027 seventh-rounder to the Chiefs for McDuffie. The Rams are clearly trying to capitalize on their Super Bowl window after falling just short last season. McDuffie's deal averages $31 million per year, the most for any cornerback in the league. The Rams acquired McDuffie from the Chiefs, then gave him a 4 year, $124 million extension with $100 million guaranteed. McDuffie is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and is set to make $13.6 million. The extension keeps him with the Rams through 2030.
