Pharrell's Louis Vuitton Goes Formal

Pharrell Williams unveiled the Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2026 collection, marking a bold step into formalwear and further solidifying hip-hop's influence on luxury fashion. The lineup emphasizes sharp tailoring and creative flourishes, continuing Pharrell's innovation streak at the storied house.

Pharrell Williams' appointment as Men's Creative Director in February 2023 filled the role left vacant by the passing of visionary designer Virgil Abloh. The move sparked debate, with some questioning the choice of a musician for the top design job at the French legacy house. His debut Spring-Summer 2024 show was a celebrity-filled spectacle that shut down Paris's oldest bridge, the Pont Neuf, with attendees like Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Rihanna. The collection introduced a signature pixelated camouflage pattern, dubbed "Damoflage," which fused the house's iconic Damier check with military aesthetics. A key focus from the outset has been reimagining core accessories. Williams famously redesigned the iconic Speedy bag, swapping its traditional canvas for supple calf leather in bold primary colors, a nod to the vibrant knock-offs found on New York's Canal Street. Previous collections have explored distinct American archetypes, including a Fall/Winter 2024 show centered on the American West. That collection featured cowboy-inspired silhouettes, turquoise-buttoned jackets, and collaborations with artists from the Dakota and Lakota nations. The new formalwear line is meticulously structured into categories like "Timeless Business," "Modern Tailoring," and "Evening." This approach targets a range of professional and celebratory dress codes, from boardrooms to black-tie events. Specific pieces in the Fall/Winter 2026 collection include the Gaston, Napolitana, and Pont Neuf suits. The designs blend classic tailoring with unexpected details, such as wool twill suits that incorporate elements from carpenter-style workwear, featuring riveted pockets and embossed jean buttons. The formal push is supported by a full range of accessories. The footwear lineup includes the Varenne Richelieu and Sorbonne Loafer, while the LV Aerogram line of leather bags has been revamped to complement the professional aesthetic.
