Two new ADHD focus tools
FocusBoxIO launched an AI‑powered Pomodoro tool tailored for ADHD with real‑time task updates and distraction‑free zones, while Focana.app released an always‑on‑top MacOS focus system with timers designed for executive‑function support. Both products were promoted on social channels as tools to support attention and session work in remote settings. The posts positioned these apps as targeted productivity supports for neurodivergent users. (x.com) (x.com)
Two new apps aimed at people with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder are pitching a simpler promise: keep one task visible and break work into shorter sessions. (focana.app) (focusbox.io) FocusBox says its tool uses artificial intelligence to generate task lists, assign durations, suggest next steps in real time, and run built-in Pomodoro timers. Its site says the product is designed for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and timeboxing, with integrations for Notion, Jira, ClickUp, Asana, Todoist, and Google Calendar. (focusbox.io 1) (focusbox.io 2) One FocusBox template shortens the standard Pomodoro cycle to 15 minutes of work and 5 minutes of break time, with a longer break after every three cycles. The company says the template is meant to make sessions “more manageable” for users who struggle with longer focus blocks. (focusbox.io) Focana takes the opposite approach on scope. Its Mac application keeps a single task and timer floating above other windows, adds “gentle check-ins,” a note-taking “parking lot” for stray thoughts, and session history, and sells for a $29 lifetime purchase with no subscription. (focana.app) The products are arriving as adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder is drawing more attention from employers, clinicians, and app makers. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in an October 10, 2024 report that 15.5 million United States adults, or 6.0%, had a current diagnosis in 2023. (cdc.gov) That same federal report said about half of adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder were diagnosed at age 18 or older, about one third used stimulant medication in the previous year, and 71.5% of those users had trouble filling a prescription because the medication was unavailable. It also found that about half had used telehealth for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder services. (cdc.gov) Both apps frame the problem less as long-term planning and more as moment-to-moment attention. FocusBox emphasizes artificial-intelligence planning, ambient sound, reminders, and imported task lists, while Focana argues that browser tabs, chat apps, and context switching make many traditional productivity systems disappear at the exact moment users need them. (focusbox.io 1) (focusbox.io 2) (focana.app) Neither product presents itself as medical treatment, and both are sold as productivity software rather than clinical care. What they are selling is structure: a visible timer, a shorter work block, and one next step at a time. (focusbox.io) (focana.app)
