Fremont’s new Artists’ Pop-Up Market is set for Sunday, April 26, bringing local artists and shoppers to the Downtown Event Center for a four-hour finale to the city’s monthlong arts celebration. (tricityvoice.com) The market runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fremont Downtown Event Center and Plaza, 3500 Capitol Ave., and city listings say it is part of Fremont Creates’ April Arts, Culture and Creativity Month program. (fremont.gov) Fremont Creates says more than 20 local artists will sell work directly to the public, turning the event into both an exhibition and a retail market rather than a gallery-style show. (tricityvoice.com) Organizers are also adding programming beyond the vendor booths. Tri-City Voice reported that a makerspace for kids of all ages will return, and two adult workshops for ages 15 and up are new this year. (tricityvoice.com) The April 26 market caps a broader citywide push to pack April with arts events. Fremont Creates’ calendar lists student art shows, yarnbombing installations, workshops and other programs across the month. (fremontcreates.com) That campaign has been building for several years. A Tri-City Voice preview of this year’s season said California designated Arts, Culture and Creativity Month in 2019, and Fremont formally acknowledged it with a city proclamation in 2022. (tricityvoice.com) The pop-up market also appears to be a new format for 2026. Fremont Creates labels it “New This Year” and says local artists were invited to apply to display and sell their work at the Downtown Event Center. (fremontcreates.com) For artists, the event is structured as an organized public market rather than an open sidewalk fair. Fremont Creates’ registration page required a $50 deposit, refundable after the event if participation requirements are met. (fremontcreates.com) Entertainment is part of the draw as well. Tri-City Voice said live jazz is planned inside while Wadaiko Newark taiko drums will perform outdoors during the market. (tricityvoice.com) The market lands at the close of a busy downtown arts weekend. Tri-City Voice said the City of Fremont will also stage its first free “Downtown Dance” event at the same venue on Saturday, April 25. (tricityvoice.com) If the schedule holds, April 26 will give Fremont one more public test of whether a downtown arts market can pull together shopping, workshops and live performance in a single afternoon.
