Tesla & Google Join Forces on Grid

Tesla and Google launched "Utilize," a coalition to cut electricity costs by optimizing grid capacity using AI.

The coalition, called "Utilize," aims to tackle the underutilization of the U.S. power grid, which operates at just 53% capacity on average. They argue that better utilization could save American consumers over $100 billion in the next decade. Utilize plans to advocate for policies that encourage wider adoption of technologies like battery storage, demand response, and virtual power plants. The group will focus on working with state officials and regulators to establish grid utilization goals. Other founding members include Carrier, Renew Home, Sparkfund, SPAN, and Verrus. The coalition brings together both energy producers and consumers, with companies like Tesla selling batteries and Google operating power-hungry data centers.
