USWNT Beats Canada 1-0
The U.S. Women's National Team defeated Canada 1-0 in the SheBelieves Cup thanks to a goal from Sentnor. The win is another positive sign for the USWNT as they continue preparations for major international competitions.
The lone goal came in the 55th minute from 22-year-old forward Ally Sentnor, who fired a half-volley past Canadian goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan. The decisive strike was Sentnor's seventh career international goal and her team-leading third of 2026. Cincinnati native Rose Lavelle provided the assist on the goal, delivering a corner kick that found its way to Sentnor. The match, played at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field in Columbus, Ohio, saw the U.S. outshoot their northern rivals 18-6. This victory marked the USWNT's seventh consecutive shutout, a defensive streak stretching back to a 3-1 win over Portugal in October 2025. The last time Canada defeated the U.S. was in the semifinals of the Tokyo Olympics, where they won 1-0 before going on to win the gold medal. The win places the U.S. at the top of the SheBelieves Cup standings with two wins from two matches. A win or a draw in their final match against Colombia on March 7 in Harrison, New Jersey, will secure the tournament title for the Americans. The match featured a mix of veteran leadership and emerging talent for the USWNT under coach Emma Hayes. The roster for the tournament included seasoned players like Lindsey Heaps, Rose Lavelle, and Emily Sonnett, alongside a dozen players who made their national team debuts in 2025 or 2026. For Canada, the match was their fourth appearance in the SheBelieves Cup. Their roster for the tournament was missing several key players due to injury, including Kadeisha Buchanan, Sabrina D'Angelo, and Shelina Zadorsky. The game was part of the 11th annual SheBelieves Cup, a four-team invitational tournament hosted by the United States. This year's competition also features Colombia and Argentina, creating a CONCACAF versus CONMEBOL dynamic. Both teams are using the tournament as preparation for upcoming major competitions. The USWNT is building towards the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifiers, while Canada is also focused on qualifying for the World Cup and the 2028 Olympics.
