POET Technologies Pivot
POET Technologies said it has pivoted under new leadership and reportedly secured a large investment (reported as 2,500억 KRW), positioning its interposer technology as a platform with ties to Marvell and Celestial AI. POET Technologies is trying to turn an optical-chip story into a shipping-products story, backed by roughly US$375 million raised since October 2025. (poet-technologies.com 1) (poet-technologies.com 2) (poet-technologies.com 3) The company closed a US$75 million private placement with a single institutional investor on October 7, 2025, then closed a US$150 million registered direct offering on October 28, 2025. On January 22, 2026, it announced another US$150 million registered direct offering expected to close on January 23. (poet-technologies.com 1) (poet-technologies.com 2) (poet-technologies.com 3) Chief Executive Officer Suresh Venkatesan has framed that cash as fuel for acquisitions, research and development, light-source expansion and manufacturing scale-up. In POET’s March 31, 2026 results, he said the company had made a “decisive transition from development to execution” after securing more than US$225 million in fourth-quarter financing and another US$150 million in January 2026. (poet-technologies.com 1) (poet-technologies.com 2) The underlying bet is simple: move data with light instead of copper, then package the lasers, detectors and control electronics on a common base so modules are cheaper and easier to build at scale. POET calls that base its Optical Interposer, which it says integrates electronic and photonic parts into one multi-chip module using wafer-level manufacturing and packaging. (poet-technologies.com) (poet-technologies.com) That pitch has become more relevant as artificial intelligence systems demand faster links between chips and racks. Marvell said when it completed its Celestial AI acquisition on February 2, 2026 that Celestial’s optical interconnect technology was aimed at high-bandwidth, low-latency connectivity for large-scale artificial intelligence deployments. (marvell.com) POET’s tie to Celestial AI is older and narrower than some social-media posts suggest. In April 2023, POET said it had entered a co-development agreement with Celestial AI for POET Starlight, a packaged light-source product built on POET’s LightBar platform. (poet-technologies.com) The company has also spent the past two years lining up manufacturing partners that already sell into big data-center customers. Foxconn Interconnect Technology selected POET optical engines for 800-gigabit and 1.6-terabit transceiver modules in May 2024, and Luxshare Technology expanded its work with POET on 400-gigabit and 800-gigabit pluggable transceivers in August 2024. (poet-technologies.com) (poet-technologies.com) There are early signs of revenue, but not yet a mature business. POET said on October 22, 2025 that it received a production order worth more than US$5 million for Infinity optical engines, and its March 31, 2026 results cited that order as evidence that deployments were beginning to scale. (poet-technologies.com) (poet-technologies.com) The harder part is still ahead: turning platform claims, partner logos and fresh capital into repeat orders and sustained revenue. For now, POET’s pivot is less about a single new invention than about whether this cash-rich phase finally gets its optical interposer into volume production.
