UNC Divers Head to NCAAs
The University of North Carolina diving team is heading to Athens, Georgia for the NCAA Zone B Championships. This marks a key qualifying event for collegiate divers aiming for the national stage. The championships represent an important step in the NCAA diving postseason format.
The University of North Carolina will be represented by a team of six divers at the NCAA Zone B Championships: Sofia Knight for the women, and Chris Booler, Conrad Eck, Carter Loftin, Ciro Mejia, and Rodolfo Vázquez Montaño for the men. The four-day competition will be held at the Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia. This championship event is the sole method for divers to qualify for the NCAA Championships. The number of qualification spots varies by event, with the women's 1-meter having 11 spots, the 3-meter having nine, and the platform having seven. For the men, eight divers will qualify on the 1-meter, six on the 3-meter, and seven on the platform. The competition kicks off on Sunday, March 8th, with the women's 1-meter preliminaries and finals. The schedule continues through Wednesday, March 11th, with different events for men and women each day, and all the action will be streamed on ESPN+. Divers who finish in the top 18 of the preliminary rounds will advance to the finals for each event. Should a diver secure an automatic qualification in one event, they can also compete in other events at the NCAA Championships by finishing in the top 12 in those additional disciplines at the Zone meet.
