Monet lands in Blackpool

The National Gallery’s traveling Monet program just delivered a rare unveiling at Blackpool’s Grundy Art Gallery, part of a rollout of life‑size Monet reproductions into UK public spaces. Curators are treating the arrival as a landmark moment in taking Impressionism out of major museums and into regional audiences. (central.radio) (blackpoolgazette.co.uk)

Claude Monet’s The Petit Bras of the Seine at Argenteuil (1872) is the work on display at the Grundy Art Gallery in Blackpool from 28 March to 13 June 2026. (thegrundy.org) The Grundy was selected from more than 30 UK venues to be one of four host institutions on The National Gallery Masterpiece Tour 2025–27, alongside the Sainsbury Centre (Norwich), South Shields Museum & Art Gallery and Ferens Art Gallery (Hull). (thegrundy.org) The National Gallery says the painting has left its London collection only once in the last 20 years, underlining the rarity of the loan. (nationalgallery.org.uk) As part of the Blackpool presentation the Grundy will invite every Blackpool school to view the Monet, run interactive workshops and stage a schools’ exhibition, and local youth charity The Magic Club has produced a new sound work to accompany the painting on display. (thegrundy.org) The National Gallery reports The Masterpiece Tour has reached 400,953 people since 2014 and its wider National Touring programme has reached 1,467,618 people since 2014, with the 2025–27 Masterpiece Tour supported by insurer Hiscox. (nationalgallery.org.uk) The Grundy is presenting the Monet alongside a major solo exhibition by Northwest painter Louise Giovanelli, From Here to Here to Here (28 March–28 June 2026), and programming that includes partnerships with the Apollo Painting School. (artrabbit.com) At partner venue Sainsbury Centre the tour placed Monet within a purpose-built “reflective space” during its 2025 season to explore themes such as sanctuary and trauma-informed programming, indicating each host will frame the painting according to local curatorial priorities.
