Anduril Partners with AtkinsRéalis on Autonomy

Defense technology firm Anduril has formed a partnership with systems integration company AtkinsRéalis. The collaboration aims to accelerate the deployment of autonomous systems across the defense sector. The partnership will combine Anduril's expertise in AI and unmanned platforms with AtkinsRéalis's operational and integration experience.

- This partnership is exclusive to Anduril's uncrewed aerial systems programs within the UK defense sector and will see AtkinsRéalis provide crucial safety, assurance, and regulatory expertise. AtkinsRéalis's role will be to navigate the complex certification processes with bodies like the Military Aviation Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority, ensuring the autonomous systems can be safely and securely operated. - A key outcome of the collaboration will be the establishment of a UK-based manufacturing facility for Anduril's uncrewed platforms. AtkinsRéalis will leverage its experience in delivering complex industrial facilities to support this effort, which aims to create a sovereign manufacturing capability for the UK and a hub for potential exports to Europe. - Anduril's core technology is the Lattice OS, an AI-powered software platform that acts as an open operating system for defense. It is hardware-agnostic, meaning it can integrate and orchestrate a wide array of sensors, drones, and other autonomous systems from different manufacturers into a single command and control interface. - This partnership directly supports the UK's strategic defense priorities. The recent Strategic Defence Review and the Defence Drone Strategy emphasize a significant shift towards autonomous systems and a future force structure that includes a high number of uncrewed platforms. - Anduril already has a working relationship with the UK's Ministry of Defence (MoD). For example, they have a £17 million contract for "Programme TALOS," which focuses on an integrated command and control approach for force protection and counter-unmanned aerial systems for the Royal Air Force. - The collaboration aligns with the British Army's Project NYX, a program focused on Land Autonomous Collaborative Platforms. Anduril UK has also established other industrial partnerships to support this, including an agreement with GKN Aerospace for airframe manufacturing. - For AtkinsRéalis, a company with around 2,000 employees working on UK defense-related projects, this partnership solidifies its role as a key systems integrator in the growing field of autonomous defense technology. Their expertise in both engineering and navigating the stringent regulatory environments of defense and aerospace is critical for a software-focused company like Anduril to deploy its systems at scale. - The partnership is also exploring dual-use applications for autonomous technology. Anduril is working with AtkinsRéalis, Archer, and Skyports Drone Services to test the use of Archer's Midnight eVTOL aircraft for both military and civilian logistics and transport in the UK.
