Indian SaaS Wootzwork Raises $6.6M Series A
Wootzwork, a New Delhi-based B2B SaaS company providing manufacturing and engineering solutions, has closed a $6.6 million Series A round. The funding was led by Z47 with participation from Nexus Venture Partners. The investment highlights continued investor interest in Indian startups that use deep technical expertise to solve specific enterprise problems.
The latest funding round brings Wootzwork's total capital raised to nearly $10 million, following a $3.5 million seed round in August 2023. This positions the company to expand its global engineering and program teams and take on larger, more complex projects for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). The company aims to address the significant value erosion in offshore manufacturing, where an estimated 15-30% of expected savings are lost due to coordination failures like delays and rework. The founding duo combines deep engineering expertise with strategic business acumen. CEO Karan Anand holds an MBA from Stanford and has a background in investment banking and strategy at companies like AirAsia, in addition to leading Startup India. COO Himanshu Uniyal is a mechanical engineer with extensive experience in setting up manufacturing plants and managing large-scale engineering projects at major Indian conglomerates like ITC and L&T. Wootzwork's core mission is to elevate Indian manufacturing from a "build to print" model, where suppliers simply execute on provided designs, to a "build to spec" powerhouse that offers end-to-end engineering solutions. The company acts as a single, accountable partner for global OEMs, managing a vetted network of over 300 suppliers. This approach allows them to handle everything from initial design and prototyping to final delivery of complex assemblies. The company's platform is described as an "AI driven manufacturing engine" that overlays proprietary engineering, governance, and execution systems onto existing factory infrastructure. This allows their manufacturing partners to meet global standards without needing to be completely rebuilt. The focus is on creating a system where quality scales with execution, a common challenge in distributed manufacturing. Investor confidence is rooted in the massive market opportunity and the founders' vision. Lead investor Z47 is focused on backing founders who are building advanced manufacturing capabilities and global supply chains originating from India. Sudipto Sannigrahi, a partner at Z47, emphasized that Wootzwork's founders have built deep execution capabilities in a sector where trust is earned over years, not quarters. Nexus Venture Partners, a returning investor, has a history of backing successful cross-border B2B SaaS companies. Their investment thesis aligns with Indian startups that leverage the country's engineering talent to solve global problems. The firm often takes a hands-on approach, assisting with go-to-market strategies and scaling between the US and India. Over the past year, Wootzwork has managed cross-border manufacturing for over 22 global companies across 12 international trade lanes. They have successfully produced more than 30 million parts and assemblies, serving industries from renewable energy and data centers to food processing and automotive engineering, all while maintaining a 98% on-time delivery and quality compliance record.
