GCG Acquires Specialty Distributor United Wire & Cable
GCG, a distributor of connectivity and power solutions, has acquired United Wire & Cable (UWC). UWC is a specialty provider of proprietary power cable systems and related products. The acquisition expands GCG's portfolio and market reach in the power and automation sectors.
- Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, United Wire & Cable is a family-owned business now led by the second generation, Laura-Anne Tredenick and Robyn Baldasti. The company was founded over four decades ago. - UWC specializes in proprietary power cable systems, with its core offering being the MAXIAMP® cable bus feeder system. This system is designed for critical markets such as data centers and industrial applications. - The acquisition will see UWC become part of GCG's Custom Engineered Solutions (CES) group, which aims to enhance GCG's capabilities in engineered power solutions for high-growth areas like mission-critical power infrastructure. - This is the 11th acquisition by GCG in the last six years, reflecting a consistent strategy of growth through acquiring specialized distributors. The financial terms of the deal with United Wire & Cable were not publicly disclosed. - GCG's CEO, Glenn Pennycook, stated that UWC's expertise in power and critical infrastructure makes it a "natural fit" for their company. Pennycook joined GCG in March 2025, having previously led EIS, a distributor of materials for the electrical OEM, motor repair, and assembly markets. - GCG is a part of the Industrial Parts Group of Genuine Parts Company (GPC). In a significant strategic move, GPC recently announced its intention to separate its automotive and industrial parts businesses into two distinct, publicly traded companies. - In 2025, Genuine Parts Company's industrial parts unit, which includes GCG, generated approximately $9 billion in sales. The broader GPC conglomerate reported total sales of $24.3 billion for the same year.
