Gordon Ramsay to Produce Michelin Star Series
Gordon Ramsay is set to star in a new Apple TV+ documentary series that will spotlight the intense process chefs undergo to earn Michelin stars. The series reflects a growing public interest in the standards and artistry of elite dining.
The upcoming eight-part documentary series is titled "Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars" and will be hosted by food expert Jesse Burgess. The show is produced by Ramsay's own company, Studio Ramsay Global, for Apple TV+. Viewers will get a rare look into the notoriously secretive Michelin Guide, following chefs across the globe in cities like Los Angeles, Mexico City, and Copenhagen as they navigate the year-long inspection season. The series promises unprecedented access to the Michelin awards process. The Michelin star is one of the most prestigious and sought-after honors in the culinary world. Anonymous inspectors evaluate restaurants based on five key criteria: the quality of ingredients, mastery of flavor and cooking techniques, the chef's personality reflected in the cuisine, value for money, and consistency between visits. A single star signifies "a very good restaurant," two stars mean "excellent cooking, worth a detour," and the highest honor of three stars is for "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey." The pressure on chefs is immense, as earning a star can significantly boost a restaurant's business, while losing one can be devastating. Gordon Ramsay is no stranger to the pressures of the Michelin system, having been awarded 17 stars throughout his career and currently holding eight. His flagship establishment, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London, has maintained the coveted three-star rating since 2001. The series will not only showcase the pursuit of new stars but also the fight to retain existing ones. Michelin inspectors dine anonymously and can visit a restaurant multiple times to ensure the high standards are consistently met before making their final decision.
