Grohe’s spa installation

Grohe is returning to Milan with a 'Spa Aqua Sanctuary' installation at Piccolo Teatro Studio Melato, blending water‑tech product display with immersive wellness design. (dezeen.com) It’s a good example of brands using experiential spaces at Design Week to position fixtures as lifestyle features, not just hardware. (dezeen.com)

A plumbing brand is taking over a working Milan theater for five days, and that tells you a lot about what Milan Design Week has become. Grohe’s “Aqua Sanctuary” runs from 22 to 26 April 2026 inside Piccolo Teatro Studio Melato at Via Rivoli 6 in the Brera district. (dezeen.com) The venue is not a showroom built for faucets. Piccolo Teatro Studio Melato is part of Milan’s Piccolo Teatro system, and Grohe says it will convert the theater in a 72-hour window after the final curtain call. (grohe.com) (fuorisalone.it) Grohe is using its luxury line, called Grohe Spa, to frame water fixtures less like construction products and more like a wellness experience. The company’s own language for the installation is “Wellbeing through Water,” which turns showers and fittings into part of a mood, not just part of a bathroom. (grohe.com) (breradesigndistrict.it) That pitch fits the logic of Milan Design Week, where brands compete for attention with temporary spaces that feel closer to theater sets than trade fair booths. Fuorisalone, the citywide program around the fairgrounds, is built on exactly this kind of off-site installation in neighborhoods like Brera. (fuorisalone.it) (breradesigndistrict.it) Grohe is leaning into that format with what Brera Design District describes as three immersive sanctums inside the theater. The point is to make visitors walk through a sequence of spaces, the way a museum stages an exhibition or a spa stages a treatment. (breradesigndistrict.it) The installation also borrows prestige from the address itself. Fuorisalone calls it a historic first for Piccolo Teatro Studio Melato, because the theater is being turned into a branded environment for the first time. (fuorisalone.it) This is not Grohe’s first Milan activation, which is part of the strategy. Grohe’s Italian event page explicitly links the 2026 installation to its previous Design Week appearances, including a water-themed presentation at the Pinacoteca di Brera art museum. (grohe.com) The schedule shows who this is for. The space is open 10:00 to 17:00 on 22 and 23 April, 10:00 to 21:00 on 24 and 25 April, and 10:00 to 18:00 on 26 April, which covers both trade visitors in daytime hours and the broader Design Week crowd in the evening. (grohe.com) (tileitalia.it) The bigger shift is that bathroom companies used to sell reliability, chrome finish, and water pressure. At Milan Design Week 2026, Grohe is selling stillness, ritual, and a place inside one of Italy’s best-known cultural institutions. (dezeen.com) (grohe.com)
