Brython Dominates Celtic Challenge 32-10
Welsh side Brython secured a 32-10 victory in the Celtic Challenge, leading 10-3 at halftime thanks to tries from Lisa Neumann and Seren Singleton. Second-half scorers included Mollie Wilkinson, Mabli Evans, Seren Lockwood, and Ellie Tromans as Brython pulled away for a commanding win. The result highlights the competitive depth in women's rugby across the Celtic nations.
The Celtic Challenge was launched in 2023 as a cross-border competition to develop players from Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. It is designed to bridge the gap between domestic club rugby and the demands of the international game, with financial support from World Rugby and the three national unions. This season, the tournament expanded to feature six teams in a full home-and-away round-robin format: Brython Thunder and Gwalia Lightning from Wales, Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors from Scotland, and the Clovers and Wolfhounds from Ireland. The competition provides a crucial high-performance platform for players on the pathway to their respective national teams ahead of the Women's Six Nations. Brython's opening try-scorer, Lisa Neumann, is a veteran presence on the team, holding over 50 caps for the Welsh national side. The Harlequins wing made her debut for Wales in 2018 and has played in two Rugby World Cups. In contrast to Neumann's experience, several of Brython's other scorers are rising talents in Welsh rugby. Centre Mollie Wilkinson made her senior Wales debut in the 2024 Six Nations, while versatile back Ellie Tromans has come through the Wales U20s pathway. Scrum-half Seren Lockwood, another of the try-scorers, is one of the youngest players in the setup, having been called into the extended Wales training squad as a teenager. The victory showcases Brython's blend of established international experience with the next generation of Welsh talent the tournament aims to foster.
