Anthony Edwards Wins Player Week
Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves) and Jalen Duren (Detroit Pistons) were named NBA Players of the Week for their standout performances during Week 19. Edwards continues to drive Minnesota's playoff push, while Duren's consistency is a bright spot in Detroit's rebuilding season. Separately, Trae Young is set to make his Washington Wizards debut against the Utah Jazz on March 5.
Anthony Edwards powered the Timberwolves through a perfect 3-0 week by averaging 28.7 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game. This award marks the third time in his career he has received Player of the Week honors. The undefeated week for Minnesota included a significant 117-108 road victory against the Denver Nuggets, helping them climb the conference ladder. With a current record of 38-23, the Timberwolves hold the No. 4 seed in a tight Western Conference playoff race. For the Pistons, Jalen Duren earned his first career Player of the Week award after leading Detroit to a 3-1 record in Week 19. He averaged an impressive 25.8 points and 13.8 rebounds during that stretch. Duren's week was highlighted by a dominant performance against the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he posted a career-high-tying 33 points along with 16 rebounds in an overtime victory. Trae Young's upcoming debut follows a major trade on January 9 that sent him from the Atlanta Hawks to the Wizards. In return, Atlanta received veteran guard CJ McCollum and forward Corey Kispert. Young, a four-time All-Star, has been sidelined for nearly two months with knee and quad injuries since the trade. He is set to join a young Wizards team that is in the process of rebuilding. His first opponents, the Utah Jazz, are currently struggling, having lost their last six consecutive games. The Jazz are also dealing with numerous injuries to key players, including Lauri Markkanen.
