India Wins Historic T20 Treble
India crushed New Zealand by 96 runs to win their third T20 World Cup and become the first men's team to win back-to-back titles. Sanju Samson smashed 89 off 46 balls to power India to 255-5, while Jasprit Bumrah took 4-15 to bowl out New Zealand for 159. Samson was named Player of the Tournament after saying he was "broken" following the earlier New Zealand series.
This victory marks India's third Men's T20 World Cup title, the most by any team. They surpassed West Indies and England, who have each won the tournament twice. This win was also historic as India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup on home soil. India's journey to the final was formidable, with their only loss in the tournament coming against South Africa in the Super 8 stage. They secured their spot in the final after a tense semi-final victory over England. The final against New Zealand was the first time the two nations had met in an ICC final across all three formats. The final, held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, saw India post a mammoth 255/5, the highest total ever in a T20 World Cup final. The 96-run victory was the largest margin of victory in a T20 World Cup final. The foundation for this record-breaking total was a 98-run opening partnership between Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan. Sanju Samson's incredible tournament included three consecutive 50-plus scores in the knockout stages, making him the only Indian to achieve this in a single edition. His 89 in the final was the highest individual score in a T20 World Cup final, surpassing Marlon Samuels' 85 in 2016 and Kane Williamson's 85 in 2021. He finished the tournament with 321 runs, the most by an Indian in a single T20 World Cup. Jasprit Bumrah's 4/15 in the final were his best-ever figures in a T20 International and the best by a pacer in a T20 World Cup final. He and teammate Varun Chakaravarthy finished as the joint-highest wicket-takers of the tournament with 14 wickets each. Axar Patel also played a crucial role in the final with his spell of 3/27.
