Assassin's Creed Shadows Winding Down

Ubisoft confirmed that Assassin's Creed Shadows is entering its final phase of support, shifting to smaller, less frequent updates. An anniversary livestream is scheduled for March 20 with special surprises for fans before major content development ends.

The game, which launched on March 20, 2025, is concluding its first year of significant post-launch support. This initial period was robust, featuring free new quests, a New Game Plus mode, new difficulty settings, and regular gameplay improvements. A major expansion, "Claws of Awaji," was released in September 2025, adding a new island region and continuing the story of protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. This was confirmed to be the only large-scale expansion planned for the game. Throughout its first year, developers added fan-requested features like expanded parkour options, photo mode enhancements, and quality-of-life updates based on community feedback. The game also saw seasonal events and cosmetic content added through an in-game system called "Projects". Set in 16th-century feudal Japan during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, the game explores the final chaotic years of the Sengoku period. It follows the intertwined stories of Iga shinobi Naoe and the historical African samurai, Yasuke. The shift to smaller updates signals a redirection of resources to future titles in the franchise, including the next flagship game, currently known as *Assassin's Creed: Codename HEXE*. This winding-down of support after a year of active development is part of Ubisoft's typical lifecycle for its major releases.
