Spring: Prune Vines Now

For Wisteria, late February or March is the time to prune, removing up to two-thirds of the current year's growth. This encourages more blooms. Clematis pruning depends on the variety, but many types benefit from a trim in March to remove dead or weak stems. Doing so makes way for vigorous new growth. Other plants to consider pruning in March include Buddleia, Caryopteris, and deciduous grasses. These respond well to being cut back hard before new growth starts.
