On-Chain AI Identity Standard Goes Live on Solana

The 8004-solana standard for on-chain AI agent identity is now live on mainnet. Backed by the Solana Foundation, the new standard enables verifiable identities for AI agents, with developer tools expected to roll out this week to accelerate the AI narrative.

The 8004-solana standard is a Solana-native implementation of the ERC-8004 "Trustless Agents" standard, which was originally proposed on Ethereum in August 2025. This initiative, spearheaded by QuantuLabs, aims to create a universal "trust layer" for autonomous AI agents, allowing them to have verifiable identities and portable reputations across multiple blockchains. The Solana version is designed to be fully compliant with the original ERC-8004 specification, adapting it to Solana's architecture using Anchor programs and the Metaplex Core NFT standard. This standard establishes an on-chain registry where each AI agent is represented as an NFT, containing its unique ID and metadata about its capabilities and ownership. A key feature is the reputation registry, which allows users and other agents to provide feedback on an agent's performance, creating a transparent and immutable track record. To prevent spam, the system can require cryptographic proof that a task was completed and paid for before accepting feedback. The expansion to Solana is intended to leverage the network's high throughput and low transaction fees, which are well-suited for the micro-transactions often involved in AI agent operations. Projects like PayAI, which focuses on payment infrastructure for the AI era, have supported the mainnet deployment, highlighting the natural fit between ERC-8004's identity layer and Solana's speed. This interoperability means an AI agent registered on Solana can have its credentials and reputation recognized on Ethereum-based networks like Base, Arbitrum, and Polygon, and vice versa. A parallel effort within the Solana Foundation, a draft proposal known as SATI (Solana Agent Trust Infrastructure), also aims for full ERC-8004 compatibility. SATI utilizes Token-2022 for the agent identity NFTs and the Solana Attestation Service for handling reputation data. Developer resources, including a TypeScript SDK, are available to facilitate the integration of this new standard. This development is part of a larger trend known as "AgentFi," where autonomous agents play a significant role in decentralized finance. The ability for AI agents to own crypto wallets, execute transactions, and build a verifiable reputation is seen as a foundational layer for a new machine-to-machine economy. Since the initial launch of ERC-8004 in January, over 24,000 agents have registered their identities on-chain. The broader vision of Web4.0 anticipates a future where AI agents are not just tools but active participants in the digital economy. These agents will require on-chain identities to manage assets, participate in governance, and interact in a trust-minimized way. The 8004-solana standard provides a crucial piece of infrastructure for this emerging ecosystem on the Solana network.
