Fifteen U.S. routes launched

A cluster of U.S. carriers — Alaska, American, Breeze, Southwest and United — opened 15 new domestic routes over a seven‑day stretch, an industry roundup reports. (nomadlawyer.org)

Fifteen domestic routes began flying in one week, from Tuesday, April 7, through Tuesday, April 14, as five United States airlines widened their maps ahead of the summer schedule. (simpleflying.com) The launches came from Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Breeze Airways, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines, according to an April 13 industry roundup tracking inaugurals over that seven-day stretch. Most of the routes were new to the carrier operating them, not just seasonal resumptions. (simpleflying.com) American opened Los Angeles-Cleveland and restarted Los Angeles-Washington Dulles on April 7, both with daily Boeing 737 service, after separately laying out a broader 15-route domestic buildout for 2026 in December. Alaska returned to Arcata-Eureka, California, on April 8 with daily Seattle service, ending a 15-year gap in its own network. (simpleflying.com) (news.aa.com) (news.alaskaair.com) Southwest used the week to add Santa Rosa, California, and St. Maarten to its map, starting Las Vegas-Santa Rosa and San Diego-Santa Rosa on April 7 and Chicago O'Hare-Panama City, Florida, plus Denver-Knoxville on April 11. AeroRoutes first listed the Chicago O'Hare and Denver additions in Southwest’s April 2026 schedule filing. (simpleflying.com) (aeroroutes.com) Breeze’s additions fit its model of linking midsize or underserved cities with a few weekly flights instead of hub banks. Its January 28 route announcement included new service such as Los Angeles-Louisville, Louisville-Pittsburgh, Madison-Raleigh-Durham and Fort Lauderdale-Pensacola, with introductory one-way fares starting at $39 on some markets. (flybreeze.com) That strategy has been visible across Breeze’s 2026 network push. The airline also announced on February 24 that it would add Birmingham, Alabama, and Tallahassee, Florida, to its system in July, extending its focus on point-to-point flying outside the biggest hubs. (flybreeze.com) United’s side of the week mixed brand-new dots with returns. The April 13 roundup said Montgomery, Alabama, joined United’s map for the first time from Houston Intercontinental, while Clarksburg, West Virginia, was due back on April 14 from Chicago O’Hare after a previous exit in 2022. (simpleflying.com) (aeroroutes.com) United has also been rebuilding short-haul feed at Chicago O’Hare, where AeroRoutes and Simple Flying reported new or returning service to cities including Bloomington, Champaign, Kalamazoo, La Crosse and Lansing. Some of those starts were later pushed to June 1, 2026, showing how quickly airline schedules can shift even after routes are announced. (simpleflying.com) (aeroroutes.com) The burst of launches reflects how carriers are filling out domestic schedules for the peak travel season with a mix of leisure routes, small-city links and restored service. By mid-April, the result was a rare week in which travelers saw 15 new domestic options appear almost all at once. (simpleflying.com)
