Craft Contemporary’s annual CLAY LA marketplace returns to Los Angeles this weekend, opening with a Friday, April 24 preview night and continuing through Sunday, April 26. (craftcontemporary.org) The event is at Craft Contemporary, 5814 Wilshire Blvd., and the museum says this is the 9th edition of its ceramic marketplace and fundraiser. Preview Night runs Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.; the market follows Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (craftcontemporary.org) Tickets split by day: Friday’s Preview Night costs $20 for the general public and $15 for members, Saturday is included with $9 museum admission, and Sunday is pay-what-you-wish. Craft Contemporary says Friday ticket holders also get one complimentary opportunity-drawing entry. (craftcontemporary.org) Ceramics marketplaces work like temporary artist fairs: visitors buy directly from makers instead of through galleries or retail stores. Craft Contemporary says CLAY LA brings together emerging and established ceramic artists from across Los Angeles for in-person sales and conversations. (craftcontemporary.org) The museum frames the weekend as both a shopping event and a fundraiser tied to its broader programs. On its main site, Craft Contemporary says donations and event support help fund exhibitions, educational programs, and hands-on craft experiences. (craftcontemporary.org, craftcontemporary.org) This year’s vendor list includes more than two dozen artists and studios, among them Angel Prudencio, Chunmei Ceramics, Greg Lowe Arts, Hugh Remar Los Angeles, People’s Pottery Project, Sergio Noe Studio, Tierra del Sol, and Yunting Ceramics. (craftcontemporary.org) The weekend also includes free drop-in air-dry clay activities from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on both market days, with materials donated by Laguna Clay & Glaze Co. Craft Contemporary says the event is built to include shopping, hands-on clay activities, music, and courtyard programming. (craftcontemporary.org) PBS SoCal included CLAY LA in its April 20-26 events roundup, describing it as a chance to meet local makers and browse ceramics in the museum’s outdoor courtyard. For Angelenos looking for an arts event this week, the market runs through Sunday afternoon. (pbssocal.org, craftcontemporary.org)
