Scream 7 Filming Begins
Kevin Williamson has kicked off filming on "Scream 7" — the franchise creator is back behind the camera reuniting several cast members from the previous two films. Plot details remain under wraps, but the production signals a return to Woodsboro for another meta-slasher chapter. The return of Kevin Williamson to the director's chair is a full-circle moment for the franchise. Williamson penned the original "Scream" that redefined the horror genre in 1996, as well as "Scream 2" and "Scream 4." This marks his first time directing a film in the series he created. The film underwent a significant creative overhaul following the departure of the previous two installments' stars. Melissa Barrera was fired from the project due to social media posts, and shortly after, Jenna Ortega exited, citing scheduling conflicts. This led to the exit of previously announced director Christopher Landon and a complete script rewrite. Neve Campbell's return as Sidney Prescott is a major focal point, especially after her absence from "Scream VI" due to a salary dispute. The new story is reported to center on Sidney and her daughter, Tatum, played by Isabel May, who becomes the new target of Ghostface. In a move that has fans buzzing, several deceased characters are set to reappear. David Arquette's Dewey Riley, who was killed in "Scream" (2022), is confirmed to return, alongside Matthew Lillard, who portrayed one of the original Ghostface killers, Stu Macher. How they will be integrated into the story remains a key mystery. Alongside the returning legacy cast, including Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, the film introduces a host of new faces. Among the newcomers are Mckenna Grace, Joel McHale, and Mark Consuelos, joining the franchise for this new chapter. Filming for "Scream 7" took place in and around Atlanta, Georgia, wrapping up in March 2025. The movie is slated for a theatrical release on February 27, 2026.
