Gallery Openings This Weekend
Multiple gallery events are happening this weekend: Mindy Solomon Gallery opens new exhibitions March 7 (6-8:30pm), Irvine Fine Arts Center hosts weekend receptions March 7 (2-4pm), and Paseo Arts District holds its First Friday Gallery Walk tonight (6-9pm) with live music by Kennedy Fine. Fort Scott's 34th Annual Fine Arts Exhibit runs March 5-13 with an artist reception March 5.
Mindy Solomon Gallery in Miami will simultaneously launch three solo exhibitions. These include "I Have No Body I Am Somebody" by Jack Kabangu, "Stars in Your Eyes" by Sydnie Jimenez, and "Cuerpos cósmicos, between the earth and the skies / entre los cielos y la tierra" by Natalia Arbelaez and Daniela Gomez Paz. The Irvine Fine Arts Center is hosting receptions for two new spring exhibitions that will be on view until May 16. One is a group exhibition titled "First Day of Spring Is Today," and the other is a solo exhibition, "Sergio O'Cadiz Moctezuma: In Process," which showcases the work of the influential late Orange County artist and muralist. The Paseo Arts District's First Friday Gallery Walk is a monthly free event featuring over 80 artists and more than 25 local businesses that keep their doors open late. In addition to the galleries, the event often includes other community activities; this month, the OKC Astronomy Club will be set up with telescopes for public viewing. The musical guest for the Paseo's First Friday, Kennedy Fine, is an indie-pop and rock artist from Oklahoma. Her debut single, "The Stars Are Broken," released in 2024, gained significant traction with over 30,000 streams in its first month and earned her a finalist spot in the International Songwriting Competition. The 34th Annual Fine Arts Exhibit in Fort Scott, presented by the Bourbon County Arts Council, showcases a wide array of media from artists across Kansas and Missouri. The juried competition includes categories like ceramics, painting, photography, and fiber arts, with this year's added theme being “Life Inspiring". Cash prizes are awarded for category winners and Best of Show.
