DePIN Token GRASS Surges 38%
The GRASS token surged 38.5% amid a spike in network activity. The price action reflects growing speculation around Decentralized Physical Infrastructure (DePIN) tokens that support AI workloads and autonomous machine agents, a core part of the emerging "Machine Economy" thesis.
Wynd Network, the company behind Grass, is building a decentralized network to scrape public web data for training AI models. Users run a node that allows the network to utilize their unused internet bandwidth in exchange for GRASS tokens. This model aims to create traceable datasets and ethically compensate individuals for their contributions to the network. The project has attracted significant venture capital interest, securing a $3.5 million seed round co-led by Polychain Capital and Tribe Capital. Other investors in the round included Bitscale, Big Brain, and Advisors Anonymous. An earlier pre-seed round was led by No Limit Holdings. The recent price action follows a significant token unlock on February 28, 2026, which released 55 million GRASS tokens to ecosystem contributors, increasing the circulating supply by over 13%. The market's ability to absorb this new supply without a major sell-off is being interpreted as a sign of holder confidence. The DePIN sector as a whole has seen substantial growth, with a market capitalization exceeding $50 billion in early 2025. This growth is driven by increasing demand for decentralized solutions for real-world infrastructure, particularly in computing power for AI. Analysts project the DePIN market could reach $3.5 trillion by 2028. Trading volume for GRASS surged to over $59 million, representing nearly half of its market capitalization in a 24-hour period, suggesting strong institutional interest. The token has also shown significant strength against Bitcoin, gaining 31.9%, which often indicates that crypto-native traders are rotating capital with conviction in the project's fundamentals. Grass has outlined a roadmap focused on expanding its infrastructure to handle more extensive AI data workloads. This includes scaling network capacity for both training and live context retrieval for AI clients throughout 2026 and 2027. The long-term vision is for the network to power real-time AI applications and queries. The initial GRASS token airdrop occurred on October 28, 2024, distributing 100 million tokens to over 2 million users. A second stage of the airdrop is ongoing, with an additional 17% of the total supply allocated for future distributions and ecosystem rewards.
