New Guide Spotlights Fremont Family Fun
A new travel guide highlights the top 10 things to do in Fremont for families and multigenerational groups. Key recommendations include exploring Central Park and Lake Elizabeth, hiking Mission Peak, and visiting the historic Ardenwood Farm.
Fremont's Central Park spans over 450 acres, featuring the 83-acre, man-made Lake Elizabeth at its center. The lake, which has an average depth of about seven feet, was named in 1969 to honor Fremont's sister city, Elizabeth, in South Australia. A 2-mile paved path encircles the lake, offering scenic views of the Mission Peak Hills. Beyond the main lake, Central Park is a hub of activity with four distinct playgrounds, the most popular being the all-abilities Always Dream Play Park. Families can also find a seasonal waterpark called Aqua Adventure, a skatepark, a dog park, and numerous sports facilities including tennis courts, soccer fields, and softball fields. Ardenwood Historic Farm offers a glimpse into life on a late 19th and early 20th-century farm that was once the estate of the Patterson family. The farm features a restored Queen Anne-style mansion, a train ride through a Monarch Butterfly Grove, and various farm animals like goats, sheep, and chickens. Seasonal events, from harvesting festivals to holiday celebrations, provide interactive experiences. While Mission Peak is known for its challenging trails, it is a popular destination for families, though not all may reach the summit. The 6.2-mile round trip hike involves an elevation gain of over 2,100 feet. For an easier outdoor experience with children, Coyote Hills Regional Park offers flatter, paved trails ideal for walking or biking with views of the San Francisco Bay. The historic Niles district provides another family-friendly outing, with tree-lined streets, antique shops, and the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum. Visitors can also take a ride on the Niles Canyon Railway. For water-based fun beyond Lake Elizabeth, the Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area offers opportunities for swimming, fishing, and boating in a peaceful setting.
