Michigan Clinches Big Ten Basketball Title

The University of Michigan men's basketball team rolled over Illinois to clinch the Big Ten regular-season title, securing top seeding for the conference tournament. Florida also clinched at least a share of the SEC title with a commanding win over Arkansas, highlighting both programs' resurgence as March Madness approaches.

The No. 3 ranked Michigan Wolverines secured their first outright Big Ten regular-season title since 2014 with a decisive 84-70 victory over No. 10 Illinois on the road. The win marked a program-best 17th conference victory and snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Fighting Illini that dated back to 2019. In his return to Champaign, former Illinois player Morez Johnson Jr. led the Wolverines with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Center Aday Mara also tallied 19 points, while Yaxel Lendeborg contributed 16, showcasing the dominance of Michigan's frontcourt. Under second-year head coach Dusty May, Michigan has now captured both a regular-season title and a Big Ten Tournament championship, which they won in 2025. The team improved its overall record to 27-2 and is currently on a 13-game conference winning streak. As the top seed, Michigan earns a triple-bye in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament, which will be held from March 10-15 in Chicago. This year's tournament is the first to include all 18 conference teams. Meanwhile, the No. 7 Florida Gators locked up at least a share of the SEC regular-season title for the first time since 2014 after a commanding 111-77 win over No. 20 Arkansas. The victory was the Gators' ninth straight and capped an undefeated month of February. The title adds to a decorated run for the Gators, who are the defending NCAA National Champions and also won the 2025 SEC Tournament. The team, led by fourth-year head coach Todd Golden, now holds a 23-6 record.
