New Sci-Fi Novel Release

J.C. Gemmell is promoting their new sci-fi novel 'In the Fullness of Tion', which has been praised for "high tension and complex dialogue" by Readers' Favorite. The book is available through Books2Read distribution.

J.C. Gemmell is a British independent author who previously worked as an engineer for multinational organizations before turning to writing. His background in computer science and research and development informs his speculative fiction, lending authenticity to his explorations of how technology shapes society. Gemmell is a vocal supporter of independent authors in the science fiction, dystopian, and cyberpunk genres. "In the Fullness of Tion" is a collection of nine short stories set within the same universe as Gemmell's other works, the "Tion" series. The book explores a future where humanity has escaped rising oceans by building Tion, a vast network of spheres suspended above the flooded Earth. The society within Tion is rigidly divided into a caste system, with the elite inhabiting the upper levels while the masses reside in the lower ones. The overarching themes in the collection include societal status, online dependency, and the struggle between aspiration and despair in an artificial world. The stories delve into a data-dependent civilization where technology is all-encompassing, featuring concepts like a world-altering stolen disease, the ability to move between the spheres, and the option to pay to have traumatic memories "spliced". Literary Titan notes that readers may find echoes of Isaac Asimov and William Gibson in Gemmell's work, particularly in its focus on technology's capacity to isolate and alienate humanity. The narrative style is described as inventive and challenging, with dense world-building that rewards patient readers with an immersive experience. The stories within the collection vary in tone from hopeful to deeply cynical. One story follows a man living as part of a living collection in a single room, while another takes a nostalgic look at a woman reconnecting with a past love. The world of Tion features a virtual community called Sodality, where many citizens choose to escape from the reality of their lives. This reliance on technology over human connection is a central element of the society Gemmell has created. Other books in Gemmell's "Tion" series include "The Fornax Assassin," "The Visionary," "Tionsphere," "The Uprisers," and "Demiurge". "The Visionary" is also available as an audiobook.
