The Indies Choice Book Awards, presented by the American Booksellers Association (ABA), recognize exceptional works across various genres, as chosen by independent booksellers. The awards aim to highlight the vital role independent bookstores play in the literary world. The award has a rich history, starting in 1991 as the American Bookseller Book of the Year (ABBY). It was relaunched as Book Sense Book of the Year in 2000, then renamed the Indies Choice Book Awards in 2009. In 2010, it became the Indies Choice Book Awards/E.B. White Read-Aloud Awards. Independent booksellers from ABA member stores vote on titles featured on the Indie Next List, Kids' Indie Next List, and Indies Introduce to determine the shortlists and winners. The awards are given in categories such as adult fiction, adult nonfiction, picture book, middle grade, young adult, debut adult, and debut children's book. The winner in each category receives $2,000.
