Anthropic brings Claude into Word

Anthropic has put Claude inside Microsoft Word, adding a beta assistant that edits documents directly in the app with tracked changes. (claude.com) The add-in is live in beta for Claude Team and Enterprise customers, and Anthropic has listed it in Microsoft AppSource as “Claude by Anthropic for Word.” (claude.com) (marketplace.microsoft.com) Anthropic says Claude for Word can read multi-section files, work through comment threads, preserve formatting and numbering, and show each edit as a native Word tracked change that a user can accept or reject. One example prompt asks Claude to “soften the indemnification clause and make it mutual,” a legal use case aimed at redlining inside Word rather than in a separate chat window. (claude.com) Anthropic is pushing the add-in into Microsoft’s own workplace software at a moment when Microsoft is also selling artificial intelligence tools inside Microsoft 365. In November 2025, Anthropic and Microsoft expanded their partnership so Claude models became available in Microsoft Foundry and inside parts of Microsoft 365 Copilot. Anthropic said Azure customers could use existing Microsoft Azure agreements and billing in Microsoft Foundry instead of setting up separate vendor approvals. Anthropic says users can sign in with a Claude account “or connect through your existing cloud provider,” and its broader Office add-in pages name Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI, and Microsoft Foundry as supported routes. Anthropic also says Claude can attach citations back to source documents that users upload, a feature aimed at audit-heavy work. (claude.com) Word is the third major Microsoft Office app in Anthropic’s rollout. Anthropic says Claude can pass context across Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in one conversation, and in February it said PowerPoint was in research preview while Excel had received “substantial upgrades.” (claude.com) (anthropic.com) Anthropic’s own warning is narrower than the sales pitch: Claude “can make mistakes,” and the company tells users to review tracked changes before accepting them, especially in client-facing documents.
