Indian Drive-Thru 'Zatka Bites' Opens in Round Rock
Zatka Bites, a new drive-thru restaurant specializing in Mumbai street food, is now open in Round Rock. The restaurant, which opened in January, plans to operate from its current location for at least five years.
Owned and operated by local residents Bageshri and Kiran Dhotre, Zatka Bites officially opened on January 16. The restaurant is located at 1300 S. Mays St., Ste. 102, situated next to Curry Pizza House. The to-go-only establishment features a simple drive-thru lane and a walk-up window for quick service. The menu focuses on authentic Mumbai street food, with the vada pav highlighted as a main item. This popular Indian street food is a vegan slider featuring a fried potato patty. Other offerings include chicken frankie, pav bhaji, and misal pav, which is a spicy curry with sprouts. In addition to savory snacks, the restaurant serves beverages like spiced chai and chilled fruit sodas. According to co-owner Kiran Dhotre, the buns used for their sandwiches are vegan and baked fresh daily. Zatka Bites also offers both vegan and non-vegan boxed meals. The establishment occupies a 1,020-square-foot space that underwent a $110,000 interior finish-out to accommodate the new take-out restaurant. The exterior of the building is distinguished by a colorful mural. The restaurant is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., though it is closed on Tuesdays.
